IELTS

Termed as International English Language Testing System.

 It is designed to assess the language proficiency of candidates who need to study or work

where English is the language of communication.

 Accepted by UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Ireland, New Zealand & many colleges in

USA.

 Conducting 1.4 million tests globally, IELTS is the world's most popular English testing

system.

 IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and University of Cambridge

ESOL examinations (Cambridge ESOL).

 It is offered in more than 500 locations in around 120 countries.

IELTS has 2 versions:

1) Academic Module: It is for students seeking entry to a university or institution of higher

education offering degree and diploma courses.

2) General Module: For students seeking entry in - a secondary school, vocational training courses,

or people who want to work or migrate to an English speaking country.

Scoring Pattern

 IELTS score is given on a scale of 0 - 9 bands.

 A student receives the score by mail, 13 days after the test date.

Some important points

 The test fee for IELTS is Rs.11,300 (British Council), Rs.11,300 (IDP)

 IELTS is conducted on 48 fixed dates in a year - up to 4 times a month, depending on local

demand

 There is also an option to either postpone or cancel the test more than 5 weeks before the

test date. In that case, the student receives a fee refund minus an administrative charge.

 The test is in a paper pencil format.

 IELTS scores are valid for 2 years.

PTE

Termed as Pearson Test of English.

 PTE Academic is the world's leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and

immigration.

 PTE Academic offers fast, flexible English testing. Candidates can schedule their test as little

as twenty-four hours in advance, and typically receive their results within five business days.

PTE Academic offers flexible testing locations, with test centres in over 50 countries

worldwide.

 PTE Academic is accepted by thousands of academic programs worldwide, including

prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale University.

 PTE Academic is also accepted for visa applications such as Australia.

 Results in five business days

 Schedule tests up to 24 hours in advance

Two Versions of PTE:

1. The Pearson Test of English Academic

PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English

speakers wanting to study abroad. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. There is one

multi-level test.

2. The Pearson Test of English General (generally for Proficiency purposes only)

(Formerly the London Test of English, these are designed to reward positive achievement in English

language learning. The tests consist of two parts: a written paper and an interview).

There are six levels of the General test. Each level is set at one of the CEFR levels.
